What do you love most about working with LOI?
I love the community that LOI has created. The dedication and passion that everyone has towards youth entrepreneurship is extremely inspiring and motivating.
Got any passions? What is your life goal and how will you reach it?
I have many passions some of them include environmental conservation, baking, bouldering and personal development. My life goal is to work abroad in Berlin for 1-year. Berlin is my first choice for a working holiday because I fell in love with the atmosphere and the startup culture that exists in the city. Berliners are extremely supportive of entrepreneurs and accepting of new ideas and I would love to study the culture and integrate it into the Calgary startup community. To complete my goal I am currently working two jobs to save up money as well as working to expand the startup I work in to help them branch out to Europe in the next two years.
What's your superpower?
My superpower would be dedication and persistence. In my past experience working with different startups, I was able to attain my goals through persistence. Whenever I was confronted by failures and rejections, I would take the experience or the rejection, find areas where I could improve, and try again. This process allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone to try new things as well as better understand my strengths and weaknesses. I continue to use this superpower today to pursue my passion projects at work and it has allowed me to explore all my passions. My best example would be that growing up I was exposed to the idea of environmental conservation and how we can minimize our carbon footprint within Canada and I fell in love with it; today I am developing a service offering at ETCH Sourcing on how to help businesses transform their procurement process to become more sustainable.
The best advice you could give to a young entrepreneur is to…
The best advice I could give to a young entrepreneur is to never stop challenging yourself to step outside of your comfort zone. You never know what value these adventures can bring to your skillset!
What are you watching right now?
Right now I am watching Designated Survivor. I love this show because the main character is constantly placed outside of his comfort zone and he is able to find a well rounded solution.
The biggest influencer in your life?
The biggest influencer in my life would have to be my grandmother. Time and time again she has shown me the power of being persistent in her work. During WWII, my grandmother carried her youngest sister on her back and fled from Guangzhou, China to Hong Kong. She then started a lighter manufacturing company and turned it into a flourishing business within 5 years. I am inspired by her resilience and her ability to overcome any obstacles that came her way, as a young female in a male dominated industry.
